Wand: Hemlock, ten and a quarter inches, serpent scale. Very flexible.
Hemlock
Hemlock is a ‘quick’ wandwood and allows for fast reactions, and makes an excellent potion stirrer besides.
Serpent Scale
The serpent is a mystical creature often misrepresented in literature. Dangerous and stealthy, the serpent was summoned to guard and defend ancient temples or places of power. They have the power to heal, poison or provide expanded consciousness, which would make a wise choice for one who wishes to brew potions or cast defensive spells. A serpent scale would make an excellent companion to woods that draw off the element of earth and water.

History
The Ravenhearst bloodline is one which can trace its lineage back as far as could be remembered. Most were sorted into Slytherin, some were not, but most important to them was the fact that their blood was pure, unspoiled. That and the amount of wealth they'd managed to accrue over the many generations. They donated some of it, of course, to worthy causes like Hogwarts or Ministry programs, because it gave them positions of influence in both. This was the world that Charles Ravenhearst grew up in. He was popular enough, handsome and smart enough to have been sorted into Ravenclaw. As he grew up, he never wanted for anything and he fell in love with a pretty girl a couple years younger than him in Slytherin, Annabel Rainley. They had a beautiful fairy tale wedding and were blessed with two children-- Christian and Sarah.
But when Christian was in his first year of Hogwarts and Sarah was little more than a toddler, Lord Voldemort returned to power after everyone had believed him gone. Though Charles' parents were proud of their pure lineage, they didn't want to harm the muggles.. Live and let live, albeit separately. Suddenly the economy wasn't doing well and the Ravenhearsts were in trouble. They their gold sunk into shops all over Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, but no one was shopping-- they were hiding. All the money they'd thought they'd always have, they didn't. And Charles had a good job at the Ministry before, but his position was no longer needed in this new reign.
The Ravenhearsts were in trouble when the Dark Lord took over and money was scarce. Christian's parents couldn't addord to give him new books or robes, earning him a few scathing remarks from his classmates. The only thing which saved him was his Potions class with Professor Slughorn. While he didn't have the family connections anymore to make Slughorn consider him for the Slug Club, he showed himself to be gifted in the art of Potions. He loved to read books on it in the Library and there was little better than hearing his professor exclaim that he seemed to have an instinctive, natural gift.
In the end of his second year at Hogwarts, there was the famous Battle at Hogwarts. Being all of twelve years old, Christian was, of course, not involved. He can still remember the chaos, though, raging through the halls as a pretty girl with long red hair shuffled him through the portrait hole. He remembers pressing his nose to the glass of the windows in the bar, watching as deadly bright lights surrounded Hogwarts.
After the Dark Lord was vanquished things began to get back to normal, but slowly. So slowly. Even months after, the Ravenhearsts were not as financially stable as they'd once been. They'd put themselves in debt and it didn't help hat Christian's grandparents passed away. His father was trying to deal with his own grief while playing legal catch up. But for the majority of Chris's time in Hogwarts, his family had one foot in the poor house because neither of his parents had ever had to worry about managing funds. But regardless, Christian did all right, excelled in Potions, and quickly became one of Slughorns favorites. Christian managed to keep his marks up and spent a lot of his time keeping an eye out for his little sister (which was practically a full time job). He did well enough in his exams, but it was clear to all that his talents and creativity lent themselves to brewing Potions.
Chris graduated Hogwarts without any promising job prospects and started out working in an apothecary in London. His family couldn't help him much, still supporting his (occasionally high-maintenance) little sister, so he was living nearly paycheck to paycheck. He bartended on odd nights, and dated this girl and that girl without ever finding a job he truly wanted.
After four or so years of this behavior, Chris gave in and took a job at the Ministry, in the Accidental Magical Reversal Squad, cleaning up messes and brewing many of the antidotes needed to correct the mishaps of magic that ended up with Muggles with extra limbs or odd boils or differently colored skin. Chris didn't love the job, but it wasn't as though he could turn down the gold. He could finally afford to move out of his little flat and into a real home. Imagine his surprise when he received an owl from his old Headmistress, Professor McGonagall. Slughorn had finally returned, to enjoy his remaining years and the countless gifts he received from his favored students, and the Headmistress was looking for someone else to pick up the mantle.
At almost thirty years old, in a job he'd never wanted, Chris couldn't see how he could get a better offer to change his career. He barely hesitated before responding that he'd take the job, and now, he's settling into his new career as Potion's professor. Over the past few years he's settled into the role and really enjoys his career now.
Appearance
Chris's appearance is very average by most accounts. He does not tower impressively over his students, standing at a humble five feet and ten and a half inches. So, sure, he's better off than Flitwick, he can still seem imposing to the younger students, but many sixth and seventh year male students have an inch or two (or more) on him. His build isn't slender, or wiry and muscular, but solidly average, and he's strong enough to lug about the big cauldrons, even though he's perfectly capable of sending them flying through the air with a flick of his wand. His stature is mostly long arms and legs, as though he would be lanky if he was taller.
As are many in the Great Britain regions, Chris has a fair coloring. His hair is short, almost spiky and light blond. He usually wears it sticking up in every direction and Sarah tells him that it completes the "mad scientist" look for him. She probably intended him to actually style his 'do, but he likes the idea of being a mad scientist. His skin is fair, his eyes blue, and all in all, he completes the northern look of someone who lives in a country with an extremely long rainy season.
His facial features are well enough, he thinks. He has good structure in his cheekbones, though he feels his forehead is a little too big, his nose perhaps too widely pronounced. He likes his smile, though, because it's unique to him and quirky. It tilts up on his right side, until it's almost a smirk, but too good natured for that. His features are quite expressive and Chris has never been able to hide whatever he's been feeling, and he's pretty much an open book.
As far as clothes go, Christian, like most professors, wears robes in his classes. The colors vary depending on his mood, from black to blue to green to gray with silver moons and stars. He's not shy about wearing his different shades of robes, but occasionally he likes muggle clothes. The jeans are too casual for him, and he likes suits, three piece to look nice, or corduroys with jackets and sweaters and hats. But whether he's wearing muggle or wizarding clothes, Chris always put together, the clothes of obviously good quality. There's never a reason to look like a slob.
Personality
Perhaps the most obvious and endearing (er, depending on who you ask) trait Chris has is his love of variety. At least that's what he calls it. His parents and his sister and friends possibly refer to it as a short attention span. This is probably why he never could pick a career and stick with it, not until he started teaching, and could never really date girls for long enough to anything to become very serious. In a way, Chris is childlike, loving to have lots of different hobbies and friends. Teaching gives him the variety he so enjoys in coming up with creative lessons for his students as well as occasionally making volatile concoctions which blow up. Probably the only exception to this is his guitar-- Chris loves music and it's one of the few things that can keep him occupied for a long time, and he's gotten pretty good on his acoustic.
In general, Chris is a really friendly guy. He likes people and he's pretty easy to get along with, if you can get past the random bouts of insanity and see the kindness underneath. One of the things that makes him a good teacher is that he does care for his students, he will help any of them who ask. He just scares them occasionally, because he refuses to let the students rest on their laurels-- Potions are an important part of the Wizarding World in his mind and the students should always be striving to learn more about it. Despite his intensity where his subject is concerned, Chris is the first person to offer someone a hand when they're feeling lost or down on their luck.
Just as anyone else, Chris does have a temper. Or rather, less a temper, more things that annoy him. Most of the things on that list apply to his little sister, ditzy and hopeless as she seems to him. When angered, though, Christian doesn't get loud, rather he get quiet and short. He'll snap quietly at people who annoy him, although if really pushed beyond his limits, he stalks off before he says something he regrets, but he's not really capable of holding a grudge for any long period of time anyway. And once he gets close to someone, Christian is loyal to his friends and family.

Anything else? Surprisingly, considering it's me and the Play By is NPH, this character is not gay. Go figure.
Roleplay Sample I don’t wanna.
