Wand: Boabab, Billywig stinger, 10 inches, springy!
Billywig stinger
Billywig stingers are not common in Britain, but are occasionally imported from Australia, the native habitat of the Billywig. Billywig wands bond almost exclusively to light-hearted pranksters, and are extremely capricious- at one moment it will produce the strongest Cheering Charm in the school, but another time it will object to being used as a potion stirrer and siphon up hours of work without so much as a by-your-leave. When they do bond to a witch or wizard, they tend to be of Hufflepuff or Gryffindor.
Boabab: A symbol of endurance, conservation,
creativity, ingenuity and dialogue.
Symbolically, the Boabab is the symbol of one’s identity and its potential. The roots are the deeper spiritual dimensions and the trunk one’s constitution. The branches, leaves and fruits represent our constitution, abilities and skills, actions and achievement.
Some fun little bits about the Boabab tree:
Some people believe that if you pick a flower from a Baobab tree you will be eaten by a lion, but if you drink water in which a Baobab's seeds have been soaked you will be safe from crocodile attack.

History
Bindi Stevens was born to a family that was obsessed with 'keeping up with the Joneses.' Her father was a well to do stock trader in Sydney Australia, her mother a former party girl was now a stay at home mom. From a young age Bindi had been encouraged to excel in all her studies at school, her parents hoped that she would be a lawyer.
Of course they were highly confused when a letter arrived by owl to a wizarding school. Still, they accepted it, and sent their daughter off under the pretense that she was going to a boarding school in Victoria. They encouraged her to do her work there and do just as well.
She did.
After graduating she went on to work as an intern for the Australian minster of magic. After her two year internship she was offered a job working as his assistant. She took it, but despite working for the ministry of magic she still always considered herself more a muggle than a witch. All her favorite places were muggle hangouts, and it was at one of them where she met her husband.
Robert Stevens was a prominent business man who just so happened to like to go to bars in his free time. Both were regulars, and week after week they saw each other. They ended up bonding over their love of a good Australian beer. Their bar meetings turned to friendship, and their friendship to love. They began dating, and Bindi had kept her secret from him for quite awhile.
After he proposed she figured it was time to spill the beans. At first Bob that she was crazy, naturally, and tried to break it off. However, after she demonstrated her abilities he apologized profusely, and insisted the engagement be back on. Although, part of him had been terrified that if he didn't continue he would be turned into a frog (or newt, or whatever witches turned people into). In time his 'fear' wore off, he realized that his fiance was rather content living a relatively "muggle" life. They married, and he hardly realized she was a witch. Except cleaning was easy.
Both were focusing quite a bit on their careers when Bindi announced that she was pregnant, and as it turned out not just pregnant but with twins girls. Nine months later the girls were born. Erwin and Sue. It was clear from a young age that they had inherited their mother's magic. What they had not inherited though was their family's straight laced attitudes towards life. Sue and Erwin were always getting into trouble; especially Erwin.
When she was six Erwin came home carrying a black snake. Her parents were not pleased, but Erwin refused to give it up and claimed it was her pet. Erwin's parents had managed to convince her to get rid of the reptile by buying her a Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy. This, of course, prompted Sue to get jealous and she was bought a rat to cope with the jealousy.
Sue got bored of the rat (Boots) within a month, but luckily Erwin was there to take care of the critter. Even at six she showed an amazing propensity (and passion) for caring for animals. She even built Boots a rather complex home out of pipes and other odds and ends she found laying around in the house. Boots lived a good long 3 years under Erwin's care. The Staffordshire Bull terrier lived thirteen. Though Erwin had little to do with it after her 11th birthday. She and her sister attended a wizarding school in Victoria.
Bindi and Robert were not particularly pleased with Erwin during her time in school. It was not that she did bad academically, quite the opposite, she excelled. However, she excelled in topics that her parents thought to be of little importance (well, her mother). Particularly Care of Magical Creatures, but Erwin also did very well in transfiguration and muggle studies (though she distances herself a small amount from her very "muggle" family).
It didn't matter to Erwin. She excelled in what she needed to. Immediately after leaving school she went to work for an Australian wizard who had devoted much of his adult life to studying Peruvian Vipertooths. Erwin had fun living in Peru and assisting his reasearch for quite a few years , but at twenty-seven she decided to head to the United Kingdom to begin independently researching Kelpies; particularly the kelpie in Loch Ness. She got side tracked when she heard Hogwarts needed a new Care of Magical Creatures professor. She was twenty nine when she was hired for the post, and very quickly built an exciting reputation.
Professor Stevens would go into the forbidden forest and come out with some (usually dangerous) animal for her care of magical creatures class to take a good look at. At first some of the creatures of the forest were not fond of her presence, and she had to escape quite a few times from centaurs and other creatures. Eventually, however, word seemed to spread that although she took creatures out she brought them back in. Often in better condition than she left them. Now she knows she's almost safe walking through the thick forest.
Thus she's taken to bringing advanced seventh years with her. She trusts very few, but the most passionate and skilled are invited almost bi-weekly to come through the forest with her. Sometimes with the hopes of catching something, but more often with the intention of observing a nest of a rare creature, or watching for mooncalfs on night time expeditions.
The dragons currently at the school have become one of her new favorite sights, and she's more than willing to lend a helping hand when it comes to them.
Appearance
Erwin never spent much time on appearence. In her line of work such vanity was simply unneccesary, and on rare occasions downright dangerous.
Her wrists were covered with bracelets, a majority of which were made from hemp, but some were more colorful "friendship" bracelets that she picked up while in Peru. The secret to their longevity was magic, whenever one would break or fall off she would simply magically repair it so it could be worn again. However she would never keep them on using magic out of fear that her, or the animals she worked with, would get hurt. This same concern stopped her from wearing any kind of metal jewelry. That was not to say that she would not occasionally bring out 'real' jewelry when there was a need, but metal jewelry never made its way into her wardrobe.
Other than by a lack of jewelry, Erwin's wardrobe could be characterized by simplicity (although, perhaps one and the same with lack of jewelry). In Australia it was easy for her to wear khaki capris and tank tops almost all year. In Peru she wasn't so fortunate as the mountains were cold much of the year. Her wardrobe in the United Kingdom resembled the wardrobe that she had in Peru. Under her robes she often wore a simple dark colored sweater and jeans. However, she wore summer clothes until the last possible moment as she felt so much more comfortable in them.
Sue had always been considered the "pretty" sister, and perhaps this was due to Erwin's lack of interest. Sue had blonde hair, an eye for fashion, and a certain air of glamour seemed to follow her. Erwin was blessed with none of those things (strange for being twins). The obvious difference was made even stranger by the fact the two were identical in appearance in every facet except for hair. Erwin's hair was a ruddy color ranging from true red to strawberry blonde depending on season. Somehow this made her look more wild and untamed than her sister. However, Erwin was more wild and untamed, so in the end it worked.
Erwin's lack of glamour made her more awkward features more noticeable; traits her sister managed to hide under her charm. Unfortunately for Erwin her big forehead was relatively obvious, and only made worse by the fact that she almost always wore her hair back (any other way it was too difficult to deal with the animals). And even she recognized her jaw as a double edged sword. From some angles it looked regal, like her mother's, from other angles it made her look manly and harsh. Her petite nose and stunning blue eyes (a trait from her father) did manage to soften the harsher accents of her face.
Erwin was rather tall and easily stood at 5'11. She had always been self-concious of this particular trait, and she was often teased growing up for being the tallest in the class. She grew (and looked) like a weed. Her legs were super long as she was going through all of her growth spurts, and they seemed to barely be thicker than pencils. Erwin spent the first sixteen years of her life looking as though her legs could break at any moment causing her to have a dreadful fall. Eventually she grew to fill out her tall frame, and as an adult she stood powerfully. She had the appearance of a woman who wrestled a manticore and lived to tell the tale.
Personality
Erwin Stevens could be the life of a party, and the buzz kill. She was always in search of a good time, and at parties her loud Australian voice would call over the crowd "more beer" usually inserted between some obscenities. She had never been a wild partier per se, but she did rather enjoy going to bars with her best mates.
On the other hand Erwin always had the potential to be a buzz kill. A conversation with her could turn from 'fun' to preachy in a matter of seconds. She often spoke of appalling conditions within the meat industry, and she had no problems lecturing someone on where their leather belt came from. This occurred in both the muggle and wizarding world. Though, in the latter, she was often more concerned about people wearing dragonhide for vanity rather than out of necessity. This never won her favors with the conservative crowd; particularly her parents.
Regardless Erwin did not feel like many people were her enemies, and of course it wasn't as though all her friends were vegans. She was not very judgmental in the long run, and she would often ignore people's leather wearing habits after lecturing them. She was of the firm opinion that she needed to inform people of what type of industry they were supporting, but it was up to them to act on it.
Erwin was bubbly, and adventurous, and certainly one of the most fun teachers to pass through Hogwarts. Teaching suited her personality far better than Kelpie research.
